Olivia Culpo Says She Felt 'Really Ugly' Growing Up, Was Put on a Diet at Age 10

“I had to look myself in the mirror and say, ‘Okay, you’re different,’ because I was different.”

Olivia Culpo is opening up about struggling with her body image as a preteen.

While appearing alongside her sister Aurora on the latest episode of the podcast, “Emergency Contact,” the former Miss Universe, who said she was overweight as a kid, recalled having issues with her confidence growing up, saying she felt like the “ugly duckling” of the family.

Tori Spelling Recalls Being Bullied Over Her Looks, 'Hurtful' Comments About Her Eyes

“I was chubby, hairy…Honestly growing up I felt really ugly which is a terrible thing to say,” began Olivia, 28. “My siblings, my parents. They are so beautiful. I was overweight. I was really different looking. My older sister looked like the Barbie doll.”

“I was fat,” she continued, saying she was “teased” because of her weight. “I had to look myself in the mirror and say, ‘Okay, you’re different,’ because I was different. I don’t look like anybody in my family.”

The model said her and Aurora’s dad, Peter, put her on a diet when she was 10.

“Our dad is amazing but our dad is like, Type A and has run over a dozen marathons,” Olivia said. “When I was 10 years old, yeah, I was put on those diets and I kind of realized, when you put in the work you get the results. It kind of all started from there.”

Although Olivia was struggling at the time, she said it molded her into the confident and hardworking person she became.

“It’s just so weird the way that your life develops and I’m so grateful for the hard times that happened,” she explained. “I said, ‘You know what Olivia? You have to work hard.’ I could have kind of gone I guess in two directions. I either could have just been okay with being made fun of and different…or you can just kind of work hard.”

“She knew that she was overweight, so I think that she developed a skill for situating herself in situations where she would get the most attention,” Aurora added of her sister. “And then she got hot and she had that skill. That’s how you get on ‘Sports Illustrated.'”

Selena Gomez Admits the 2020 Presidential Election Is Her First Time Voting

The 2020 presidential election finally has an end in sight, and Selena Gomez just got real about how this year is her first time voting.

During an appearance on Voting Power Hour, Selena opened up about how she hasn’t always been politically engaged when it comes to casting a ballot. When “super texter” Sam J. from Michigan asked Selena about her first time voting, she grimaced a bit while saying, “Honestly, I’m not ashamed to say this, but I kind of—this was my first time.”

Explaining why, she added:

Sadly, this is a common feeling that many people share. But please know that your vote does count, and it’s vital that everyone who is able to casts their ballot in this presidential election as well as in their state and local elections, which usually don’t have as big of a turnout.

If you didn’t vote in the last election, there’s still time to register and vote in this one. Check out these handy guides for the election, first-time voters, and coming up with a voting plan for November 3:

'Seinfeld': Why Jason Alexander 'Had a Wary Eye' on Julia Louis-Dreyfus When the Show Started

Seinfeld is still considered one of NBC’s most successful sitcoms. Making household names of Jerry Seinfeld (Jerry), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Elaine), Jason Alexander (George), and Michael Richards (Kramer), the show is still beloved by fans despite going off the air over 20 years ago.

Alexander revealed that he was concerned of being edged out of the series when Louis-Dreyfus was cast.

The ‘Seinfeld’ cast needed a female

In the book Top of the Rock: Inside the Rise and Fall of Must See TV by former NBC President of Entertainment Warren Littlefield, the network exec shared that only the three male cast members were signed on when Seinfeld began taking shape. Testing showed they needed a female to balance things out.

“Women especially hated the show,” Glenn Padnick, President of Castle Rock Television, said. “The typical response is to add a person from the group who likes the show least.”

After word got out that Seinfeld was casting, actors including Megan Mullally and Rosie O’Donnell read for the role. Yet Louis-Dreyfus nailed the character of Elaine Benis on her first try.

“I knew when I met Julia that she was the girl,” Seinfeld revealed. “I don’t think I could possibly have realized how perfect the chemistry would be.”

‘Seinfeld’ emulated Larry David’s life

While the series highlighted the life of Seinfeld (hence the name), much of the show was based on the background of co-creator Larry David. The character of Elaine represented someone from David’s inner circle.

“Larry had had a relationship with woman named Monica Yates,” Padnick explained. “After they stopped dating, they remained friends, and Larry used that relationship as the model for what Jerry and Elaine’s relationship would be.”

When Alexander caught wind of a female being added to the cast, he had some questions.

“Jerry told me, ‘There’s going to be a girl on the show, but she’s not my girlfriend,’” Alexander recalled, asking Seinfeld, “‘All right. Who is she?’”

Seinfeld replied, “‘She’s like my best friend.’”

Alexander was a bit perplexed. “‘I said, I thought George was your best friend,’” he responded.

Jason Alexander had a talk with Larry David

The Seinfeld actor was initially concerned that the dynamic of one woman being in a group of friends with three men wouldn’t go over well. He found himself circumspect of Louis-Dreyfus’ role.

“I actually had a wary eye on Julia,” Alexander admitted. “I knew you didn’t do a show with three guys and one girl. You did a show with two guys and one girl.”

When Richards and Alexander were left out of an early episode, the Pretty Woman star voiced his frustration to David.

“In those first four shows, they made one that George and Kramer weren’t in,” Alexander recalled. “That’s when I famously went to Larry and said, ‘If you do that again, you’ll have to do it permanently.’”

Clearly, Alexander didn’t have to worry. Seinfeld became one of television’s most legendary sitcoms that turned the cast of four into superstars.

“The show was theater,” Alexander remarked. “It spoiled me. … It was a dream job.”

The truth about Hilary Duff’s husband, Matthew Koma

The year was 2019, and everyone was falling in love with Hilary Duff’s wedding dress, designed by Jenny Packham (via Harper’s Bazaar). But behind the shoulder pads and cape was a man Duff first met in 2015 — his name is Matthew Koma, and he is a record producer who helped the star work on her album Breath In. Breath Out. According to Vogue, the actress said about first crossing paths with her future husband, “There wasn’t an instant spark, because I think when you’re walking into a professional meeting, you know nothing about the other person. I didn’t know if he was dating someone…” But soon the two developed a fun “banter” that evolved into a friendship.

The couple would begin dating, and then, welcomed a daughter together in 2018. Banks just turned two, a milestone Duff marked on Instagram with a super sweet video chronicle of the little girl’s first few years. She also shared this heart melting caption: “My love, my sweet sweet angel girl. Thank you!!! Two amazing years with your smile and your bright eyes(swoon).” She added, “I love you so so so many times and again. Thanks for choosing us!” For his part, Koma said about his daughter’s birthday, “Happy 2nd birthday to you my sweet, sweet baby Banks. It’s the greatest privilege of my life to be your dad and I’m endlessly proud / in awe of the little human you are, and the big human you’re becoming.”

Matthew Koma proposed to Hilary Duff in the sweetest way

As many people know, Duff was married previously to Mike Comrie, and the two share a son, Luca (via Distractify). The timeline of their relationship moved pretty quickly — in 2010 they wed, in 2012 they welcomed their first and only child together, and by 2014 the couple had separated. In 2016, Duff was officially divorced from Comrie. Flash forward a few years, and Koma was proposing to the Lizze McGuire star in a park near their home.

As Duff recounted toVogue, “All of a sudden he says, ‘I’ve been working on something for you, and you’re going to love it. I really want our kids to know our story and now we can keep adding to this book.'” She goes on to describe the sketchbook he gave her: “It’s our whole entire story mapped out for us to refer back to as we get older and for our kids to know, which is amazing. I get to the very last page, and there’s a little piece that I have to lift up and my ring was inside. It was so sweet. It was really special and really simple, which is very much how we are and how we operate. Then it started raining, and it was perfect.”

Matthew Koma and Hilary Duff are adding to their family

Both of Duff’s kids took part in her pre-Christmas 2019 wedding. And now, less than a year later, and just a few days shy of Banks’ second birthday, Duff has announced on Instagram, “We are growing!!! Mostly me …” Along with the exciting news, the singer shared a cute video of Koma rubbing her tiny bump. Koma shared the same video with his own version of the announcement: “lol quarantine was fun. Baby #3 – 2021.”

Adorably, Koma often shares photos of his family on Instagram. It’s clear he loves being a dad to Banks, who incidentally, is a total Duff look alike. Meanwhile, the 33-year-old musician (he performs with a band called Winnetka Bowling League) is also obviously head over heels in love with his wife — he even has her name tattooed on his rear end. There’s no doubt Koma is excited about the family’s new addition. A recent Instagram image of he and Banks playing around in the pool was accompanied by his sweet caption, which says it all: “Being a dad rules.”

Diplo Defends Letting 19-Year-Old TikTok Star Live in His House

Diplo and Quenlin Blackwell are speaking out regarding criticism of their friendship and living arrangements. When the 19-year-old TikTok star revealed in a recent video that she’s living at the 41-year-old DJ’s home, fans quickly responded, concerned by the situation.

Blackwell tweeted a response to the critics, writing, “I’m an adult. I’m not being groomed. Platonic relationships exist. I’ve been living here for over a year… I’d rather break both of my legs and be forced to walk than pursue Diplo romantically and he’d rather choke.”

She added that she and the musician, whose real name is Thomas Wesley Pentz, aren’t often in the house together.

“He’s barely in LA bc he’s so busy. Diplo has given me the opportunity and the security to create,” she explained. “Diplo and his team are my mentors in LA and they are my safety net. Diplo and his team have saved me numerous times from the weirdos in LA. My parents trust him. I trust him. Y’all are making me feel icky. Diplo is my LA dad.. nothing more.”

Diplo also took to Twitter explaining the situation further, writing, “OK so I rent one of my properties to @quenblackwell. And yes I use the studio that is in that building. Her social media is sarcastic and chaotic and I can see you can get a twisted idea but there is nothing but a friendship between us.”

When one commenter replied, “What do you have in common with a 19-year-old that would warrant a friendship, quick,” Diplo responded, “We made music together.”

The negative press surrounding the news caused Blackwell to create a funny TikTok series titled, “Living with Diplo.” In the clips, she shares fun details of life with the DJ, including the profile pic he gave her avatar on their Peloton bike and the texts they exchanged when their home was allegedly being robbed.

Blackwell also posted a video set to the soundtrack of Cardi B’s song, “Press,” as she danced in front of the negative headlines regarding her housing situation.

Blackwell also regularly poses with her boyfriend, Parker, even recently tweeting about having children with him.

This is why Kane Brown quit The X Factor

Singer Kane Brown is a bonafide star who has taken the country music industry by storm ever since he burst onto the scene in the 2010s. During a 2015 interview with the Chattanooga Times Free Press, Brown seemingly dubbed himself the “Justin Bieber in country music,” which might have been a nod to the fact that his popularity surged when he began posting covers of songs on social media.

That being said, before he was crooning on YouTube, Brown turned to reality TV to try and get his name in lights. While the singer didn’t make it big on The X Factor after auditioning for the series in 2013, per Taste of Country, his reality TV stint did end up jumpstarting his career. And, as a bonus, former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland seemingly took a liking to Brown during his audition. According to Brown, when he walked in for his audition, “Kelly just started smiling at [him] …” He added, When I started singing to her, she put her leg up on the desk. … I walked down, and I held her hand, and after that, I don’t even remember singing, honestly.”

Despite the fact that he clearly won the attention of at least one of the judges, Brown ultimately bowed out before finishing the show. Here’s the real reason Kane Brown quit The X Factor.

Kane Brown wasn't interested in being part of a boy band

According to Taste of Country, Kane Brown “didn’t end up making a big splash on The X-Factor” for one surprising reason. Apparently, “the show’s producers wanted to include him in the lineup of a boy band.” However, Brown was savvy enough to realize that a boy band didn’t suit his vision. If he was going to make it big, he wanted to do it on his own terms. At that point, he left The X Factor to pursue a solo career.

The boy band in question was called Restless Road and finished in fourth on Season 3 of The X Factor. The original all-male group consisted of Andrew Scholz, Colton Pack and Zach Beeken, each of whom had auditioned as a solo artist. While they’d impressed the judges in their respective auditions, Scholz, Pack and Beeken didn’t end up making the top 40, which is when they got the offer to form a band as opposed to going home.

In February 2020, Restless Road reconnected with Brown, who signed the band to his label, per Country Now

Kane Brown's success has far eclipsed his early 'X Factor' days

Following his time on The X Factor, Kane Brown got to work making YouTube covers of popular country songs. According to Chattanooga Times Free Press, back in 2015, Nashville artists weren’t quite sure what to think of a previously “no-name country artist” who’d amassed hundreds of thousands of social media fans in mere weeks. Even Brown’s friends and neighbors seemed to be a bit baffled by his rapid ascent, per the Chattanooga Times Free Press. A local concert promoter and club owner admitted that he’d “never seen anything like what is happening to Kane,” adding, “He went viral so fast.”

It just goes to show that Brown didn’t have to put all of his trust and faith into The X Factor to become successful. In October 2020, the country artist was nominated for Collaborative Video of the Year at the CMT Music Awards for his “Cool Again” music video alongside Nelly. In addition to being a nominee, Brown also co-hosted the event with Modern Family alum Sarah Hyland and country singer Ashley McBryde.

With several hit singles already under his belt, it looks like Brown’s career is only headed up from here.
